Promising Industries for Creative Professionals

Following are industries expected to see continued demand for creative, marketing and communications professionals throughout 2010:

  • Healthcare/pharmaceuticals – This sector remains a bright spot, due in part to the billions of dollars devoted to healthcare under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act.
  • Mobile – Growing sophistication of users, devices and usage patterns will mean increased opportunities for marketers to connect with consumers, particularly among the growing population of smartphone users.
  • Gaming – As the U.S. videogame industry continues to grow in the next several years, dollars spent on in-game advertising will increase accordingly. In fact, eMarketer predicts that by 2013, marketers will spend a total of $681 million on in-game advertising, up from $403 million in 2008.
  • Consumer products – Due to a very competitive market, companies seek creative talent to help them redefine and reposition their goods to specific consumer tastes.
  • Financial – Many financial services companies have had to reduce headcount due to recent market conditions, and will seek freelance help during busy times.
  • Manufacturing – Many firms are going through acquisitions and mergers, and thus require professionals who can help them modify product positioning.
