Art DirectorOversees the artistic development of marketing and promotional pieces, including print, online, television and radio advertisements; collateral materials; and internal and external corporate publications. Supervises teams of designers, photographers, illustrators, production artists and freelance creatives. Within an agency, the art director collaborates with senior-level copywriters to develop strategies for compelling advertising campaigns, and often specializes in a particular area, such as print advertising or broadcast. Requires strong leadership ability, design background and knowledge of software applications, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint and QuarkXPress. Five or more years of experience is preferred. Associate Art DirectorCreates and executes design concepts, and develops artwork for a variety of materials, including advertisements, direct mail, websites and other collateral. Requires a design background and knowledge of software applications such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint and QuarkXPress. Creative DirectorOversees all creative projects and is responsible for the overall quality of work produced by the creative department. Manages projects from concept to completion and translates marketing objectives into creative strategies. Leads and directs the creative staff in the production of all advertising and marketing collateral, and ensures that visual communication standards are met across various media. Meets with clients or upper management to explain campaign strategies and solutions. May have a strong design or copywriting background. Should possess eight or more years of experience and advanced leadership, communication, project-management and problem-solving skills. Associate Creative DirectorResponsible for the preparation of advertising and marketing concepts, and the production of collateral materials. In a large advertising agency, the associate creative director works on projects with a team of copywriters and designers. In a smaller agency setting, this person may perform the copywriting and create artistic concepts him- or herself. Should possess five or more years of industry experience, strong project management skills and the ability to direct a creative team. Creative Services ManagerServes as the liaison between senior management and the creative department, and often reports directly to the creative director. Duties include assigning teams to projects, ensuring deadlines are met, and maintaining an efficient and engaging work environment for creative personnel. Requires a strong understanding of creative briefs and digital asset libraries, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to establish solid relationships with staff members. Curriculum Developer/WriterResponsible for designing and developing specifications and protocols for an organization's curriculum products. Communicates with appropriate internal groups and subject matter experts to ensure training content is accurate and aligned with the overall goals of the organization. Duties include developing and writing training manuals, PowerPoint presentations, agendas, assessment tools and other educational materials. Also coordinates the distribution of these materials to internal and external staff. Requires strong writing, editing, proofreading and researching skills. Desktop PublisherElectronically designs and produces printed materials such as advertisements, brochures, newsletters and pamphlets. Consults with clients or supervisor to evaluate individual project needs, prepares cost and time estimates for projects, and reviews proofs of printed material to ensure quality control. Requires design ability, time-management skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of desktop publishing and word processing programs. Digital ArtistCreates and modifies images for print and/or the Web, including photographs and illustrations, using software tools. May have basic drawing skills combined with knowledge of design programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, FreeHand and Dreamweaver. Requires strong technical skills, and artistic and conceptual-thinking abilities. Graphic DesignerCreates high-impact designs intended to engage, attract and sell. Develops or acquires the images used in a variety of creative projects, including advertisements, brochures, catalogs, direct mail, corporate identity, packaging, presentations, websites, promotional displays and signage. Also responsible for the design, layout and formatting of materials. Designs may integrate typographic, photographic, illustrative and other elements. Must have a strong sense of concept development, in addition to communication, research, problem-solving and presentation skills. Design ability and proficiency in software applications such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and QuarkXPress is required. Web design skills are preferred. IllustratorConceptualizes, paints and draws images used in a variety of materials and publications. Must be able to convert complex and abstract ideas into compelling visuals. Specialized illustrators may possess expertise in areas such as technical, medical, architectural, scientific and cartoon illustrations. In addition to artistic talent, may require knowledge of design programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Painter and Flash. Interactive Art DirectorLeads and manages a cross-functional design team in the conception, design and execution of visual materials for integrated, cross-channel initiatives. Translates business objectives into interactive creative solutions. Other responsibilities may include creating presentations and project plans, meeting with clients, and ensuring successful representation of clients' brands in the online sphere, including sophisticated website design, user interface and interactive campaigns. Interactive Creative DirectorLeads interactive creative teams in the process of concept creation and user experience. Oversees the development of concept boards/storyboards, presentation materials, etc. for projects, and presents design concepts and rationale to key clients. Works closely with interactive strategists, creative and technical directors, and other team members to review client strategies and develop strategic recommendations. Instructional Systems DesignerResponsible for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of a wide variety of training products. Also may be required to conduct needs assessments and participate in the creation of various learning solutions, including instructor-led training or self-paced computer courses. Requires strong writing, research and project-management skills. Litigation Graphics SpecialistCreates animation, artistic renderings and presentations for legal trial support. May work closely with legal teams to review key evidence and examine how to visually portray information to jurors, judges and arbitrators. Must be detail-oriented and proficient in PowerPoint, Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash and animation software programs. Understanding of forensics is helpful. Motion Graphics SpecialistCreates animated and video artwork for a variety of mediums, such as the Web, television and movies. Projects may include commercials, movie clips, stand-alone presentations, trailers, title sequences and post-production work. Should be proficient in Flash, After Effects, Premier, Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. Requires design ability and willingness to embrace new design, video and audio technologies. Package DesignerProduces eye-appealing containers, including boxes, tubes, bottles and shopping bags for various items such as food, beverages, clothing and cosmetics. Works with elements such as shape, color, graphics and typography to create packaging that is unique, functional and appealing to customers. Knowledge of materials such as paper, plastics and other substrates is helpful. Must be proficient in design programs and understand marketing and consumer tastes. Prepress SpecialistPre-flights files from clients, anticipating and correcting any problems. Duties may include imposing files in press layout program; operating image-setters, scanners or related equipment; fine-tuning basic settings for PostScript Raster Image Processors; and tracking customer jobs. May also be responsible for separating colors and reviewing proofs. Requires knowledge of printing processes, pre-flight and imposition software, and design applications such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and QuarkXPress. Presentation SpecialistCreates visual presentations for internal and external clients. Must be able to convey data through graphic elements such as charts, graphs, maps, tables and text. Understands marketing strategy as well as copy/design integration, and can organize information effectively. Requires critical thinking abilities, in addition to knowledge of design software and presentation programs such as PowerPoint and Keynote. Print Project ManagerOversees production of print collateral. Duties include maintaining client relationships; soliciting quotes and print estimates; procuring products and services needed for project execution; and managing budgets and schedules. Serves as a liaison between creative staff and clients; assists in resolving data processing, production and accounting challenges; and ensures customer satisfaction, quality control and timely delivery of final products. Requires excellent interpersonal and multitasking abilities. Diplomatic and problem-solving attitude helpful when assisting internal and external clients with production-related questions and concerns. Production ArtistAssists design teams in graphic production of collateral, packaging, display and advertising projects. Typical duties include pre-flight formatting, in addition to collecting, processing, checking and uploading files. Should be adept in using software applications such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, ImageReady, QuarkXPress and FlightCheck. Must have solid knowledge of printing processes, keen attention to detail and troubleshooting skills. Production CoordinatorProvides logistical support to the creative or production department. Duties may include tracking and scheduling projects, filing summary reports, pre-flight formatting of collateral, archiving, communicating with vendors and managing invoices. Requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments at once. Must understand database and project-management software, and be familiar with design programs. Production DirectorDirects general production operations. Duties include those listed for production manager but with stronger work experience within each function. Manages staff and systems of production departments; oversees information and cost management; and develops, maintains and enables standards policies consistent with company interests. Requires advanced, broad-scope technical and industry knowledge, 10 or more years of production management experience, and exceptional communication and managerial skills. Production ManagerOversees production of a wide variety of projects. Duties include project planning, workflow management, vendor negotiations, print buying, cost control, quality control, logistical coordination and press checks. Often supervises traffic coordinators and print buyers; may manage small design studio. Requires strong project-management skills and knowledge of design software applications. Studio ManagerResponsible for the general management of a design studio. Duties include establishing internal project goals, reviewing employee schedules, assigning projects, managing resources, writing and distributing detailed project schedules, overseeing quality control, ensuring deadlines are met and coordinating release of projects as necessary. Requires excellent communication and organizational skills, and an eye for detail. Technical IllustratorConceptualizes and creates illustrations for technical manuals, brochures, catalogs, presentations, animated productions, television commercials, movies, computer games, or set and exhibit designs. Must have knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator or similar design software. Requires strong artistic, organizational and research skills. Traffic CoordinatorCoordinates scheduling, processing and trafficking of advertising and other creative projects. Serves as a liaison between clients, outside vendors and internal departments to coordinate efficient and timely creative project processing. Responsible for creating project schedules and job estimates, maintaining workflow records, and routing projects for approval. Requires organizational and multitasking skills. Traffic ManagerOversees the efficient flow of work from account services to creative and production departments. Duties include monitoring workloads, creating project schedules, maintaining job files, tracking and monitoring progress, routing projects and conducting traffic meetings. May oversee traffic coordinators. Excellent time-management and multitasking skills, an eye for detail and previous traffic experience are required. |
